Karlskirche
Address:   Karlsplatz, 1040 Vienna

Karlskirche is the finest baroque church in Vienna. This imposing creation was built between 1716 and 1739, after a vow by Karl VI at the end of the 1713 plague. The church is dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo, who helped plague victims in Italy.

The twin columns are modelled on Trajan's column in Rome and show scenes of the life of the saint. The huge dome reaches 72m; in combination with the church's large windows, the dome's height creates a bright, open nave.

The main attractions are the frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr and the altar panel  by Sebastiano Ricci.

The church hosts regular classical music concerts
