Seat location & dress code

Categories VIP, A, B and C refer to the front, middle and rear part of the concert hall. Dinner is the same for all categories.

Guests with VIP tickets are served a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice during the intermission and receive a CD of the Schonbrunn Palace Orchestra.

The seats in the concert hall are not numbered. You can select your seats within the booked category on the first come-first served principle.

How to dress: there are no specific dress code requirements. An eclectic mix of visitors are often onsite at any given time, so guests dressed casually or formally are not likely to notably stand out. We recommend casual elegant attire.

The Orchestra

Schonbrunn Palace Festival Orchestra, a traditional Viennese chamber orchestra, performs from 1.April to 31.October and from 24.December to 1.January.

The orchestra members are highly qualified and experienced musicians, who have previously played in various other orchestras and well-known concert halls.

Schonbrunn Palace Festival Ensemble performs with reduced number of musicians from 1.November to 23.December and from 2. January to 31. March.

The concert hall – the Orangery

Built around 1750, the Schonbrunn Orangery was not just a greenhouse but a symbol of prestige and wealth, and a favourite venue for concerts and parties for the royals and the aristocrats.

The famous musical duel between Mozart and Salieri took place at the Orangerie Schonbrunn (Mozart lost).

The Russian Crown Prince, the future Czar Paul, and the Austrian Emperor Josef II, who was very fond of the Orangery, dined here in the late autumn of 1781.

After a thorough renovation in 1997, the former greenhouse was restored to its original beauty. The rear section of the Orangery still serves its original purpose, while the especially elegant front section is used for concerts and all kinds of festivities.
