Set in a small Moravian village, the opera follows its heroine as she struggles to make something out of a life plagued by misfortune and hardship. Asmik Grigorian takes on the title character, sharing the stage with Violeta Urmana as her imperious stepmother, the Kostelnička, and tenors David Butt Philip and Michael Laurenz as the half-brothers vying for Jenufa’s love. Maestro Tomáš Hanus, a leading interpreter of the Czech musical canon, takes the podium to conduct this poignant, yet ultimately uplifting, drama.
